SHRM Specialist, Research Analytics in Alexandria, Virginia

The Research Analytics Specialist is responsible for data analysis, validation, cleaning, and reporting for SHRM Research. The position is responsible for applying statistical and data mining tools to develop insight from survey research and human capital data sources, to include the development of static and interactive data visualizations and interactive applications. The specialist collaborates with other members of the Research team and internal and external partners to ensure that data are managed securely, data cleaning and analyses are conducted correctly and reproducibly, and results are reported accurately.
Carry out analysis projects from the initial concept through iteration and final delivery.
Create and maintain comprehensive documentation on analysis methodologies, outcomes, recommendations, data dictionary, data mappings, and flow diagrams.
With the guidance of Research leadership, create analytic plans, translating research questions into analytic approaches by engaging with internal and external stakeholders to understand each research question, and probing for hidden questions and goals.
With other members of the research team, develop standardized analytic deliverables and reusable code for common analytic and visualization tasks.
Transform analytic results to graphic visualizations and stories ranging from static graphs depicting traditional statistical analyses to web-enabled interactive graphics and applications.
Contribute to the development of the narrative, editorially-guided products including, but not limited to, reports, whitepapers, blog posts, web pages, and interactive products that engage diverse audiences with human capital research.
Serve as a resource to aid team members with less analytics experience in completing tasks and developing expertise.
Working with others, execute projects requiring the use of basic data science tools, including natural language processing of textual data and data mining.

Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Business Analytics, Statistics, Mathematics, Quantitative Social Science, or similar quantitative program that includes data storytelling/data visualization.
SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP certification required within one year of employment, if eligible.
2 years of experience as a Data Analyst in applied research setting.
Experience with tailoring technical communications to a business audience.
Ability to check, clean, transform and merge data from multiple sources/data types, while maintaining reproducible methodology.
Proficiency in statistical analysis using R or SPSS, to include frequencies, crosstabs, ANOVA, linear regression and the use of weighted data.
Proficiency in R and/or Python programming including data transformation, reproducible research/documentation, and data visualization (e.g. tidyverse, pandas, Rmd, Jupyter notebooks, ggplot, Matplotlib, RShiny, d3).
Excellent organizational skills; ability to work well under pressure, manage multiple tasks and projects concurrently, and meet deadlines.
Detail oriented and able to adhere to strict quality requirements.
Exceptional oral and written communication skills; a strong communicator of analytical concepts able to communicate clearly across all knowledge levels
Creative problem solving and analytical skills.
Works well independently or within teams.

Proficiency in Tableau, Qlikview, Power BI or other BI software.
Regularly required to sit; talk and hear, use hands to type, file, handle or feel. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms. Occasionally required to stand; walk and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Visual acuity to use a keyboard, prepare and analyze data and figures; transcribing, viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading. Light lifting is required. Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force to constantly move objects.
