SHRM Senior Specialist, Technology Product Management in Alexandria, Virginia
The Technology Analysis team is within SHRM's Technology Organization. The primary objectives of the department are to document, review, analyze, evaluate, and support SHRM business needs and provide comprehensive business solution enabled via technology. The team is responsible for ensuring technical solutions support SHRM’s strategic initiatives.
The Senior Specialist, Technology Product Management provides project management, planning, and assessment support via Information Technology for products across the organization. The position partners with business owners to manage and execute upon product roadmaps, ensures successful translation of business requirements into technical requirements, and is the technical subject matter expert for assigned products. This position will work closely with outside vendors to cultivate strong relationships, manage associated projects, and ensure product vision is met with each initiative.
Oversees the technology aspect for products, and partners with other departments (marketing, communications, research etc.) to manage the product roadmap and overall product success.
Can look at the big picture and strategy for a product while also being able to dive into the technical details of associated projects.
Is responsible for translating business requirements into technical requirements. Can effectively translate technical topics, issues, and requirements between development and engineering teams as well as business stakeholders and executives. Can adjust communication needs and details regarding requirements based on the audience at hand.
Gather and organize functional and operational requirements for products and their associated projects. Validate concepts with customers and stakeholders.
Develop and deliver progress reports, requirements documentation, and presentations for assigned products.
Develop and implement best practices and tools for product execution and management.
Manages all technology projects related to assigned products and is responsible for their success.
Supports new project identification for assigned products, project requirements evaluation and functional analysis. This includes collaborating with organization leaders to develop sound business cases for strategic priorities and initiatives.
Prepare proposals and review estimates with product sponsor, product owner, and other stakeholders as necessary.
Develop full-scale project plans and associated communications documents for projects related to assigned products. This includes managing all aspects of project activity, organizing and assigning responsibilities to project participants, and disseminating information to the various team members through task and sub-tasks assignment based on requirements.
Track key project milestones for projects you manage and adjusts project plans and/or resources to meet the needs of customers.
Effectively develop and maintain project risk mitigation and contingency plans.
Create and implement communication plans to be used throughout the product lifecycle and associated project life cycle.
Collect and track key metrics, analyze data and apply business knowledge to improve overall product or individual project execution.
Proactively manage changes in project scope, identify potential crises, and devise contingency plans to bring projects back on plan or create a new plan with the assistance of key-stakeholders. This includes planning for and ensuring adequate project documentation is completed.
High School diploma or equivalent.
5 years of experience as a Product Manager or Project Manager including 3 years supporting technical projects.
Excellent problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills.
Goal-oriented, action-focused, and highly organized.
Analytical decision-making skills.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, JIRA, and Confluence.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Strong presentation skills.
