Under the direction of the Manager of Event Experience, the Senior Specialist, Event Experience crafts strategies, builds experiences for attendees, and tells the stories of SHRM as the voice of all things work during SHRM’s events. This role creates and coordinates materials in support of SHRM events, including strategy decks, creative briefs, research memos, attendee communications, planning documents, session descriptions, and more. This position is responsible for the achievement of assigned goals and business objectives that coincide with the goals and business objectives of SHRM via brand reputation and experience. This position will be based out of our Alexandria, VA (HQ) office.
Write event-specific planning documents, thematic frameworks, and key messaging that tell the overall SHRM story and event narrative.
Support conceptualization and implementation of the theme, vision, look, and feel for each SHRM event.
Shape programming and write related content like background briefs, research memos, pitch letters, speaker profiles, and session descriptions.
Plan and execute a cohesive spatial design and high impact moments (onsite or virtually), bring to life environmental concepts, and elevate the overall experience at SHRM events.
Craft cadence of communications and outreach to event attendees leading up to, during, and post-event to optimize the event experience and grow an affinity for SHRM.
Review and analyze post-event feedback reports to understand how the story landed with the audience to be able to shape future event communications to different audiences.
Partner closely with the Event Marketing team in email, print, and other marketing campaigns to ensure copy pulls through the thematic plan and key messaging for each event into promotional content.
Partner with the Market Research team and Digital Insights team to discover key insights and opportunities related to event attendees.
Manage complex projects with a strategic, audience-first lens, solution-oriented mindset, and collaborative spirit.
Other writing assignments to support SHRM events and master brand.
Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Event/Hospitality Management, Public Relations, English, or a related field (or equivalent relevant work experience and training).
At least 5 years of progressively complex experience; preferred experience working with Marketo or similar CRM platform; experience working with Digital Event Hosting Platform
Strong project management and time management skills.
Consistent attention to detail, organization, prioritization, and analytic skills with an ability to multi-task and manage complexity.
Leadership ability with experience working in a cross-functional team.
Self-starter attitude, collaborative spirit, and ability to be flexible and move quickly in a fast-paced environment.

Content development background, preferably with experience in an agency environment.
An avid consumer of event trends with an ability to see how SHRM can innovate.
Strong creativity, savviness, and initiative.
Good judgment skills and adherence to deadlines.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint/Keynote.
Regularly required to sit; talk and hear, use hands to type, file, handle, or feel. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms. Occasionally required to stand; walk and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Visual acuity to use a keyboard, prepare, and analyze data and figures; transcribing, viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading.
Light lifting is required. Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force to constantly move objects.
- Work is regularly performed in a professional office environment and routinely uses standard office equipment.
