The Senior Specialist, Digital Design is responsible for creating on-brand, user-first, bold designs for: websites, email communications, advertising, graphics, PowerPoint presentations and more. The Designer will also support print design projects as time permits; including (but not limited to): marketing materials, books, brochures, signage, flyers, advertising and publication design. The Designer must possess expert understanding of digital best practices, user experience methodologies and best practices and responsive web design.

Your Day:

  • Using Agile methodologies, transform business requirements and wireframes into customer-focused, well-designed products utilizing best practices in user experience, responsive design, and trending web design patterns, while staying faithful to SHRM’s brand standards and strategies.

  • Adhere to timelines and production schedules for deliverables, ensuring issues are appropriately flagged to management and stakeholders.

  • Clearly communicate and present design concepts to stakeholders taking into account business requirements, crucial to-market timelines and design best practices. Utilize active-listening to better understand stakeholder needs and concerns. Present thoughts in an understandable manner, depending on audience at hand.

  • Collaborate with coworkers vertically and horizontally across the organization to bring product concepts to life, integrating critical feedback from internal and external stakeholders.

  • As appropriate, provide informal digital coaching and mentorship to more junior level designers and/or print designers to enhance the knowledge and skillset of the overall design team.

  • As assigned, create bold, customer-focused print designs including (but not limited to): marketing materials, brochures, postcards, signage, editorial content and books, ensuring all deliverables meet SHRM brand standards. Package print files in a printer-ready format for 1 to 6 color print runs is required. Strong understanding of print production and various printing methods preferred.

  • Maintain an active familiarity with SHRM’s audience, products and services, to ensure designs effectively speak to customer needs and personas.

Must Haves:

  • Bachelor’s degree in web design, graphic design, visual communication or related field; or equivalent relevant experience

  • 7+ years working on a design team with 3+ years focused on digital design.

  • Fluent in the Adobe Creative Cloud Suite, specifically: Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator.

  • Understanding of responsive web design and UX best practices.

  • Strong understanding of user flows, technical capabilities and limitations of common coding languages and data analysis.

  • Experience with Agile project framework.

  • Strong ability to multitask several ongoing projects, prioritize projects based on business need and direction from the Director, Creative Services, and create design concepts efficiently and according to agreed-upon deadlines.

  • Understanding of capabilities and limitations of various development languages and the ability to incorporate that knowledge into the design phase to keep projects in scope.

  • Understanding of printing press capabilities and limitations. Ability to design creatively for one to six color print runs.

  • Strong communication skills including active-listening skills for receiving feedback in a constructive manner

  • Solid ability to present concepts to stakeholders

  • Able to work in a team environment and collaborate with other members of Creative Services and other stakeholders, developers, information architects, and project managers to ensure that each project is a success

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to perform essential duties satisfactorily with reasonable accommodations.

  • Work is generally done sitting, talking, hearing and typing. Visual acuity to use a keyboard, prepare and analyze data and figures; transcribing, viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading.

Work Environment

  • Work is regularly performed in a professional office environment and routinely uses standard office equipment.

  • Travel Required: Occasional 0-10%
