SHRM Manager, Employee Experience in Alexandria, Virginia

Overview

The SHRM Human Resources Department is dedicated to the highest quality of customer service delivered with a sense of warmth, friendliness, individual pride, and accuracy in the areas of total rewards and analytics, employee relations, talent management and inclusion, organizational learning and talent development, and employee engagement and culture.

The Employee Experience Manager is responsible for supporting and reinforcing a positive, impactful employee experience that contributes to SHRM’s purpose: to elevate HR. SHRM is building an agile, resilient organizational culture and this position will help align the employee experience to that culture through assessment, coaching and advising, and applied research. This position will manage regular, ongoing methods for assessing the workplace (e.g., onboarding surveys, engagement surveys, stay interviews, exit interviews, etc.), facilitating the analyses and communications of results. Based on findings, will partner with managers, the HR team and other business support functions to determine how to improve/simplify the workplace at SHRM. Will also be responsible for advising on employee relations and performance related issues, tracking recurring themes to address root causes. This position will also partner with SHRM’s Knowledge and Research teams to pilot/implement leading edge workplace research / initiatives at SHRM. Will assess the effectiveness of employee transitions into and around the organization, consulting on work design and organization structure. The duties and responsibilities of this position serve as an integral component for the support of SHRM’s world-class workplace/work environment.

Responsibilities

Your Day:

  • Responsible for looking across the major aspects of the employee lifecyle to identify positive ways to improve and simplify the workplace experience.

  • Responsible for measurement and analysis of the employee experience, including surveys assessing employee engagement, onboarding, professional growth, and other sources of feedback, such as stay interviews and exit interviews. Will serve as project manager for the administration of an employee engagement survey, including communication of the results and the plan for follow-up actions.

  • Leads and coordinates employee relations initiatives and actions. Serves as the primary HR point of contact for managers and employees to address and resolve conflicts and improve performance. Will consult with subject matter experts internally and externally on more complex issues.

  • Ensures SHRM is in compliance with all new employment-related laws, regulations and directives, keeping up to date with current employment legislation and regulations. Ensures that applicable external changes are updated in SHRM’s policies and practices.

  • Responsible for establishing a framework for effective HR policy stewardship, streamlining and refining policies and practices as best meets the needs of the organization. Conducts regular internal audits of SHRM HR policies and procedures to ensure relevance, legal compliance and process improvement to ensure the use of best practices.

  • Stays abreast of new developments in workplace-related technologies and HR digital transformation and contributes to efforts to adapt at SHRM.

  • Partners with key stakeholders across the organization whose responsibilities affect the overall employee experience (such as Technology, Finance, Administration/facilities, Communications, etc.) to ensure that a holistic approach to the employee experience is achieved.

  • Serve as HR liaison to SHRM’s Knowledge Center and Research teams in an effort to explore ways in which SHRM’s workforce can serve as a proving ground for leading edge HR research and findings. Provide recommendations to CHRO on piloting/implementing new initiatives.

  • Helps connect SHRM’s purpose, guiding principles and employee experience in tangible ways that advance the desired culture and business objectives of SHRM.

  • Exemplifies the desired culture and philosophies of the organization.

  • Assists and prepares the Chief Human Resources Officer regarding various HR topics and issues, special projects and initiatives.

  • Works effectively as a team member with employees, other members of management and the human resources staff.

Qualifications

Must Haves:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, or related field

  • 7-years broad HR experience with designing, developing and supporting organization-wide employee programs, practices and policies, and cultural enrichment activities

  • 2-years of employee relations experience

  • Previous employee engagement experience (administering survey, communicating results, coaching teams on actions plans, etc)

  • Previous project management experience

  • Experience capturing metrics,conducting data analysis and producing recommendations

  • Strong commitment to ethical practices & maintaining confidentiality

  • Strong customer service orientation

  • Knowledge & understanding of employment laws and regulations

  • Superior verbal and written communication skills. Professional demeanor and excellent customer service skills. Public speaking skills a plus

  • Technically proficient in MS Office Suite and HRIS systems, using appropriate applications for data analysis

  • Demonstrated project management skills, including the ability to work independently on projects with minimal supervision. Ability to plan projects, develop milestones and meet specific deadlines and budget objectives

  • Knowledge of industry benchmarking practices through industry interaction and building external networks

  • Strong relationship management skills; ability to provide consultative advice to business leaders, and to interact with senior leaders

Let us know if you also have:

  • Master’s degree desirable

  • Five years experience or more in roles similar to HR Business Partner, HR Manager, and/or Employee Relations Specialist, with particular emphasis on contributing to large-scale change management efforts

  • Demonstrates curiosity in digital tools and new technologies, with track record of adapting/applying new tools and applications

  • Strongly oriented to collaboration in style and approach
