SHRM Manager, Digital Design in Alexandria, Virginia

Overview

The Creative Services unit produces award-winning print and online content, information services and collateral that informs, educates, and engages the professional development and knowledge-base of members, as well as Human Resource and business professionals worldwide who follow and care about issues important to human capital management.

The Manager, Digital Design supports the global organization through the development and production of designs that serve to support SHRM’s vision, mission and purpose across digital and print.The Manager takes marketing strategies and verbal content and translates it into a strong visual storytelling. The role works collaboratively with marketing, communications and product groups with responsibilities split into three main areas:

  • art direction (people management)

  • design & production (daily design tasks)

  • project management (developing workflow process/allocating resources)

Responsibilities

Your Day:

  • Manages, mentors and assists a team of multi-skilled designers, provides constructive feedback on-brand direction. Creative and technical guidance must factor in strategic business requirements, timing, brand hierarchy and technical capabilities.

  • Effectively manages individual and team timelines/schedules to ensure all critical deadlines are met. Multi-task several projects simultaneously and prioritize workloads of self and direct reports based on the business needs.

  • Communicates and presents design concepts to stakeholders taking into account business requirements, crucial to-market timelines and design best practices. Utilizes active listening to understand stakeholder needs and concerns better.

  • Develops and directs compelling and high-quality, customer-focused print and digital designs including (but not limited to): Email visuals, presentations, static and animated banners, landing page, reports, brochures, postcards, signage, editorial content, video and books.

  • Collaborates with co-workers vertically and horizontally across the organization. Approaching projects from a collaborative and agile perspective to create a shared vision

  • Establishes and implements a work order process through which design consultation can occur, specifications can be collected, and projects can be assigned and prioritized (Jira).

  • Calculates project cost estimates based on materials and resources required; maintains pricing list or system for recurring or standard projects

  • Continually improves and demonstrates best practices to peers, internal clients and organization.

  • Develops deep understanding of SHRM business priorities and has the ability to understand global cultures, markets and be able to advise teams across the SHRM world.

  • Other duties and projects as assigned.

Qualifications

Must Haves:

  • No degree is required if work experience and portfolio adequately demonstrate the candidate’s ability to perform job functions.

  • 7+ years working on a design team with 3+ years of digital experience. A portfolio demonstrating past work is required.

  • Exceptional interpersonal skills; must be able to work closely and effectively with leadership and employees of all levels.

  • Excellent sense of design.

  • Thorough understanding of typography, drawing, and lettering techniques.

  • Ability to assess costs and quote prices for clients.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software and graphic design software such as Adobe Creative Suite.

  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Understanding of, or ability to learn, art and print methods that relate to the organization’s product and packaging needs.

Let us know if you also have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in web design, graphic design, visual communication or related field.

  • Fluent in Adobe XD CC or Sketch.

  • CSS3 and HTML5 experience.

  • Animation Experience

Physical Demands

Regularly required to sit; talk and hear, use hands to type, file, handle or feel. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms. Occasionally required to stand; walk and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Visual acuity to use a keyboard, prepare and analyze data and figures; transcribing, viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading.May require ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to visit other locations; or the ability to stand, walk, lift, carry and move light to medium weight. Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard, operate equipment and learn technical information.
