SHRM Integrated Communications Senior Specialist in Alexandria, Virginia

The Integrated Communications Senior Specialist:

-Develops and executes strategic road maps focused around implementation of message-driven campaigns to increase brand awareness and audience action in support of SHRM’s business strategy,

-Amplifies SHRM’s messaging in collaboration with stakeholders across the enterprise to drive improvement in our business capabilities, effectiveness, efficiency and consistency

-Actively brings SHRM’s strategy to life across channels ensuring consistency of message in support of organizational goals with marketing, editorial, creative services, the SHRM Foundation, membership and more.


Your Day:

  • Works closely with cross-functional teams to maximize the ROI of our evolving messaging and campaign assets through innovative strategies and execution.

  • Be the “glue” between each element of a campaign as well as between each department.

  • Leads the measurement efforts for the Communications team, working closely with our Digital Insights team.

  • Partners with business leaders, marketing and brand partners, and agencies to build and lead strategic, integrated marketing communications campaigns that highlight our products and services to the target audience.

  • Identifies themes, topics and content that will resonate with target audiences and meet strategic business objectives.

  • Leverages data and insights to inform narratives and influence programming.

  • Contributes to the overall marketing strategy for each business.

  • Writes, edits and re-works campaign materials to be tailored for distinct audiences and products; writes and edits long form, short form and social content.

  • Understands, identifies and effectively navigates potential risks and sensitivities.

  • Collaborates to ensure well-managed (consistent, streamlined, value-driven and strategic) content is constantly flowing from SHRM’s channels

  • Creates opportunities to highlight SHRM’s mission, policy in action, campaigns and overall impact to the world of work.

  • Other duties and projects as assigned.


Must Haves:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, PR, or Communications.

  • 5 years of experience in an agency or in-house brand setting.

  • Excel as a leader in a collaborative environment by coming with ideas and contributing to the conversation with quick-thinking and solutions.

  • Must inspire greatness, add to brainstorming, build on ideas, and rapidly prototype to test-and-learn quickly.

  • Demonstrated strong creativity and think big skills.

  • Working knowledge of marketing principles.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

  • Demonstrated strong project and time management skills.

  • Demonstrated strong written and oral communication skills, with the ability to communicate professionally within all levels of the organization.

  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize, plan and carry out responsibilities independently with a minimum of supervision.

  • Experience in public relations, branded communications, marketing and social media.

  • Demonstrated ability to problem solve, perform multiple tasks successfully in a fast-paced environment or where priorities evolve quickly.

  • Experience creating content creation and in campaign management.

  • PMP preferred

Physical Demands

Regularly required to sit; talk and hear, use hands to type, file, handle or feel. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms. Occasionally required to stand; walk and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Visual acuity to use a keyboard, prepare and analyze data and figures; transcribing, viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading. Light lifting is required. Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force to constantly move objects.
