SHRM Instructional Designer in Alexandria, Virginia
The Instructional Designer supports the development and delivery of SHRM’s eLearning and Seminar product portfolio directed to both organizations and human resource professionals. These products help human resource professionals develop their skills, competencies, and in turn, support the advancement of the HR profession. In this capacity, the Specialist applies proven instructional design methodologies to analyze, design, develop, customize, and maintain eLearning programs and Seminars, in alignment with organizational goals, strategies, and competencies.
Act as the Instructional Design team’s super user for the organization’s Learning Management System (LMS) to upload and test courses and train other users
Perform detailed needs analyses and identify learning objectives by interviewing subject-matter experts (SMEs) and conducting research
Design and develop new eLearning, instructor-led training, and virtual training for internal and external audiences
In collaboration with project stakeholders, create project plans which incorporate key milestones and timelines which align with stakeholder requirements
Build and maintain collaborative relationships with subject matter experts to ensure optimal learning experiences
Identify and/or develop resources to support and enhance the learner experience
Advise the instructional design team on technical capabilities, limitations, and risks associated with various e-learning development software tools and approaches
Build and administer assessments for micro-credential/specialty credential programs
Integrate voice-over, graphics, and video into eLearning modules; including assessments
Provide detailed course feedback in peer review sessions for all developed courses and assessments
Conduct annual eLearning and Seminar product and program reviews by updating courses based on new laws or research
Follow design and development standards and adult learning principles when developing training materials
High School diploma or equivalent; Bachelor’s degree in Education, or a related field preferred.
3 years of experience developing courses, online training, instructor-led training and/or adult learning theory; or 7 years of experience in lieu of a degree.
Proficient with Adobe Photoshop (or other graphics editing software), Adobe Dreamweaver (or other HTML editing software), Articulate Storyline
Knowledge and hands-on experience with Learning Management Systems
Strong communication skills both written and verbal
Ability to develop and follow project plans, strong organizational and problem-solving skills
Strong customer service skills, resourceful, team-oriented and responsive to the needs of members, customers and staff
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially PowerPoint
