SHRM Engineer, Network Security in Alexandria, Virginia
The Technology Infrastructure department is responsible for the ongoing IT Operations of SHRM and its affiliates. This includes the design, implementation, and ongoing support of all hardware and software infrastructure (both desktop and server), networking (wired and wireless), enterprise and contact center telephony, applications (on premise and hosted), for all SHRM technology initiatives. The department is also responsible for SHRM IT Security and all related components including network security, remote access VPN, email security, PCI compliance, et al. The department is also responsible for IT Service Desk, including the provisioning and administration of SHRM-issued computing devices, access to applications and tools used by SHRM Staff on a daily basis, and generalized IT Support services for SHRM Staff.
The Network Security Engineer is responsible for implementing, supporting, and maintaining all aspects of SHRM’s telecommunications, network, and IT Security infrastructure. The engineer is a key resource within the Network & System Operations team, ensuring systems security, integrity, and efficiency while maintaining high availability and uptime for all essential SHRM application resources. This role includes hands-on support in developing, configuring, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing all new and existing network hardware, software, and communication links, as well as essential IT Security related tools and applications. The engineer maintains a strong focus on operational excellence, automation, continuous improvement, and leveraging best practices within the Network and IT Security environments.
Engineers, configures, deploys, maintains, documents, and troubleshoots multiple systems and services associated with SHRM’s Network & IT Security enterprise. These systems and services include:
All Local Area and Wide Area Network (LAN / WAN), both wireless and wired, as well as Internet connectivity.
All IT Security related systems and services – Firewalls & Internet Access Security, Network Access Control (NAC), SIEM (Security Information & Event Management), Intrusion Detection/Prevention, Endpoint Protection, and Email Security.
Voice-over-IP telephony solutions including Unified Communications and Customer Care (ACD) applications.
Produces and maintains documentation for the Network & IT Security systems.
Maintains and configures a strong program of Patch Management and Vulnerability Management, to include regularly scheduled testing, partnering with the IT Security Specialist as well as 3 rd Party providers.
Collaborates with the IT Security Specialist in designing, configuring, and managing SHRM’s multi-layered IT Security infrastructure.
Researches and recommends technology solutions for SHRM’s innovation and growth.
Provides conference support as required including the planning, coordinating, and supporting of computer hardware, software, and network connectivity.
Perform other duties and projects as needed.
Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Information Systems or equivalent field of study.
Currently holding or the ability to obtain CISSP or CCNA with Security certifications within 6 months.
3 to 5years of experience in a Network Engineering, Information Technology or IT Security Engineering role, in a small-to-medium sized enterprise.
Experience in implementing, troubleshooting, and supporting Network & IT Security systems and services.
Experience with Operations support for IT Infrastructure – Networks, Systems, Applications, and Tools – in a 24x7x365 environment.
Ability to perform Network Engineering and IT Security Engineering duties in the following areas:
Wireless & Wired LAN, as well as WAN & Internet connectivity
Firewall and Network Perimeter Defense systems
Network Access Control (NAC)
IT Security applications for Endpoint & Device Management, Anti-Virus/Anti-Malware, and Email & Anti-Phishing prevention
SIEM integration, configuration, and management
Patching and vulnerability management
Ability to communicate technical solutions to project management, development team, operations team, information security team and IT solutions team.
Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
Regularly required to sit; talk and hear, use hands to type, file, handle or feel. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms. Occasionally required to stand; walk and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Visual acuity to use a keyboard, prepare and analyze data and figures; transcribing, viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading. May require ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to visit other locations; or the ability to stand, walk, lift, carry and move light to medium weight. Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard, operate equipment and learn technical information. Light lifting is required. Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force to constantly move objects.
