The Director, Foundation Programs plays a pivotal role within SHRM Foundation. Serving on behalf of the President as a senior leader of the Foundation, the Director, Foundation Programs will have strategic and operational responsibility for programmatic work within SHRM Foundation. The position will be a part of the Foundation’s leadership team that drives the organization’s overall strategy and operations. With a program team of three dedicated managers the Director, Foundation Programming will be responsible for program leadership, strategy, planning and design, metrics and program efficacy, and relationship and partnership building both inside and outside of the organization.

Position Description

  • Oversee program strategy, planning, and delivery; leading implementation and review of programmatic aspects of SHRM Foundation’s strategic plan

  • Initiate steps to align staff roles, responsibilities, and activities with organizational priorities

  • Establish and maintain high-level contacts with a wide variety of industry and non-industry individuals and groups who are in a position to compel/promote the Foundation’s story, mission, and goals, while personifying an executive presence, a dynamic professional style, and the ability to inspire confidence to all levels of the organization and with all constituencies.

  • Proactively leads program team by providing direction, goals, and communication on key issues that will empower them to gain results.

  • Expand and manage relationships with colleagues across the enterprise in the advocacy, research and certification, product development, events and conferences, enterprise sales and marketing communications. Articulate and establish measurable goals, objectives, and utilizes analytical metrics for monitoring results and improving performance.

  • Develop and enhance the systems needed to gather internal and external organizational performance information and utilize it to assess, improve and demonstrate organizational impact.

  • Serve as an ambassador, spokesperson, and high-profile organizational leaders before a range of stakeholder audiences

  • Ensure the Foundation remains a cutting-edge innovator within the workforce development sector, adapting to new realities, incorporating new approaches, and expanding alliances and audiences

  • Participate in annual processes such as budgeting, goal setting and performance management

  • Work with the Philanthropy and Engagement team, participates in fundraising from idea generation to donor stewardship.

  • Other duties and projects as assigned.

Position Qualifications

  • Required

  • Bachelor’s degree

  • At least ten (10) years of demonstrated experience in progressively senior leadership roles, related to strategic program development and implementation, product development, operations, and program measurement experience along with supervisory experience.

  • Personify a dynamic, professional personable style and serve as a spokesperson and organization representative before a range of stakeholder audiences for SHRM Foundation.

  • Resourceful, solutions-focused ability to problem-solve and manage multiple projects, have an eye for detail yet an appreciation and understanding of the bigger picture.

  • Strong business acumen including superb written and oral communication skills, including public speaking.

  • Enthusiastic team player that is highly organized, flexible and customer-service orientated who recognizes organizational needs and is willing to jump in and help.

  • Demonstrate diplomacy, with a commitment and a knack for strategic thinking and an understanding of the benefits of working collaboratively and openly

  • Ability to take calculated risks and position new ideas and ways of doing business that inspire and excite stakeholders.

  • Self-motivated individual with a strong capacity for independent work and the ability to pivot in a short period of time.

  • Preferred

  • Association or non-profit background appreciation/working knowledge, for-profit or high education experience

Certifications

  • None required, prefer continued professional development in strategic program development and implementation, and program efficacy

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to perform essential duties satisfactorily with reasonable accommodations.

  • Work is generally done sitting, talking, hearing, and typing. Visual acuity to use a keyboard, prepare and analyze data and figures; transcribing, viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading.

Work Environment

  • Work is regularly performed in a combination of office and conference settings and routinely uses standard office equipment.

  • Travel Required: Moderate 20-30%
