Overview

The Role:

The Director, Digital Educational Products is responsible for developing the strategic vision and leading the future growth, execution, and financial results of SHRM’s Education Products portfolio. This dynamic portfolio consists of products that support individuals and organizations, inclusive of certification preparation, a suite of organizational assessment tools, and eLearning courseware (both developed internally and sourced from external partners). In this capacity, the Director collaborates with internal stakeholders and external partners to execute on strategy, meet the highest standards of quality, and ensure products are innovating to meet the needs of our market. Leveraging industry and market trends, the Director also present product business cases to senior management in support of growth objectives.

Responsibilities

Your Day:

Product Development Strategy & Execution:

  • Using quantitative and qualitative data, define, develop, and execute a comprehensive strategic plan for future development of the product portfolio.

  • Assess market reaction to the existing portfolio and adjust as necessary.

Partner Relationship Management:

  • Directly oversee partner relationships with our Certification Preparation materials partner, various eLearning partners, and assessment providers.

  • Lead research and identification efforts to secure additional partners that have products that would benefit our members.

Product Development & Customer Engagement:

  • Manage the development efforts related to each area of the portfolio, achieving development objectives related to performance, cost, and schedule, and ensuring that internal stakeholders, external partners are consulted as appropriate throughout the process.

  • Leverage and provide expertise for digital education products to ensure strategies utilize state of the art tools to maximum return on investment.

  • Develop customer engagement strategies to increase end-user adoption of products

  • Monitor the product release process, facilitate stakeholder user acceptance testing and ensure products are launch-ready.

  • Analyze data from clients and make recommendations on product enhancements and developments – leading to new development opportunities, increased customer satisfaction, and providing more value via our products to our customers.

  • Determine product portfolio packaging and segmentation opportunities and strategies and implement selected approaches, partnering with the marketing and membership teams to achieve sales and revenue objectives.

Operations & Finances:

  • In conjunction with senior leadership, develop and achieve annual revenue objectives for all digital education products.

  • Collaborate with internal teams to drive product sales, via partnerships, bundles, and marketing efforts

  • Develop and manage the annual department budget, demonstrating sound fiduciary responsibility, and interpretation of data to make appropriate recommendations as needed.

  • Establish and track Key Performance Indicators applicable to the portfolio.

Management & Leadership:

  • Coach, mentor, and develop a collaborative culture with direct reports and peers.

  • Manage and guide staff performance, including regularly scheduled meetings to track progress and identify professional growth opportunities – as well as provide feedback during performance review cycles.

Qualifications

Must Haves:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; Bachelor’s degree in instructional design, digital product management, marketing or a related field preferred.

  • 6 years of relevant experience in Professional Development, Certification, and/or Product/Project Management roles; 8 years of relevant Product/Project Management roles preferred.

  • Experience leading a team and being held accountable for financial results

  • Broad experience and knowledge of Professional Development

  • Strong financial acumen

  • Strong contract/negotiation skills

  • Skilled in project planning, implementation, and management

  • Strong communication skills, written and verbal

  • Expertise in MS Office suite

  • Strong customer service skills

  • Ability to work independently and within a team

  • Project management skills

  • Certification in related management or technical areas preferred, such as instructional design, human resources, project management, product management, etc.

  • Experience with education technologies
