SHRM 2018 Post-doctoral Research Fellow in Alexandria, Virginia

We are looking for a collaborative, entrepreneurial, and curious post-doctoral researcher with a passion for advancing the HR profession to join us for a two-year post-doctoral fellowship opportunity within the SHRM Research Department. The team contributes to SHRM’s overarching thought leadership mission to advance the HR profession (and professional) by providing evidence-based insights, recommendations, and innovations at the intersection of people and work. In this position, you will work with the research team to design and conduct research within at least one of three topic areas: Talent Acquisition, Organizations & Strategy, or the Future of Work.
As a Research Fellow, you will prepare research findings for publication in a variety of formats, including peer-reviewed journals and in practitioner-oriented resources, as well as serve as a voice in the science-to-practice translation efforts. In addition you will….
Contribute to the strategy and direction of a program of research that answers current and emerging questions and develops solutions to significant and/or difficult human capital challenges
Play a pivotal role in developing and managing groundbreaking research projects that addresses critical HR-related issues
Conduct advanced data analyses and manage large, complex data sets
Communicate findings and recommendations to technical and non-technical audiences alike, influencing them to take action on those findings
Provide technical advice and recommendations on or participate in other SHRM research projects and initiatives, as requested
Serve as an expert voice in the dissemination of research findings across various SHRM channels (e.g., webcasts, conference presentations, and video streams)
Strong collaboration skills and capacity to work in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment.
Strong foundation in applied research design, test construction and validation, methodology and statistics (using SPSS, SAS, and /or R).
Superior analytical skills as demonstrated by a track record of problem solving activities.
Excellent oral communication skills, writing, and presentation skills to both academic and non-academic audiences.
Proven ability to creatively solve problems and effectively juggle multiple projects.
Completion of the requirements for a Ph.D., including submission and defense of thesis, prior to start date.
Have studied Sociology, Management, Strategy, Organizational Behavior, Industrial-Organizational Psychology, or a related field.

Must submit a CV, a statement of interest (noting which of the three content areas you would like to focus), and a research proposal describing a program of research or a research project therein.
The research proposal should meet the following specifications:
No more than 5 pages, double-spaced in Times New Roman 11-point font, not including the reference list.
The proposal should include the following sections:
Background/Introduction - include a brief introduction, background and problem statement and significance, research question or hypothesis, and objectives
Methodology - include the proposed study design, population and sample, methods and instruments, and analytics methods
Resources - include a rough estimate of the resources required (timeframe and budget if applicable)
The proposal should address the following questions:
What are you trying to do? (objectives)
How is it done today, and what are the limits of current practice?
What’s new in your approach and why do you think it will be successful?
If you’re successful, what difference will it make?
What are the risks and the payoffs?
What resources will be required?
